“in beauty, we Unite”

Stepping aside from our usual discourse on all things beauty, I wanted to share the emotional power in Beauty products. As a survivor of Hurricane Harvey, witnessing immense dispossession not only made me extremely grateful, but caused me to evaluate my morning ritual, I didn’t realize that something so small made such a huge boost to my confidence. Starting with a fresh shower and then my favorite part, my beauty routine. I unconsciously grab my skin care, cleanse, tone, moisturize and then eye cream. Followed up with a choice of multiple foundations and on to a world of color through eye shadow, blush, highlighters, eye liners and lipstick galore. Satisfied with my creativity, I dress and spritz a scent that mirrors my superpowers of the day.

Now imagine you wake up and everything you love about your routine is gone. Lost. No furniture, food, clothes, cars, entertainment, and whatever else created your comfort. Remnants of what life was before. Like many others, I am blessed. The epiphany that many women who enjoyed that routine as much as I do, no longer having that ability was heartbreaking, it motivated me to leap into action. To help. Thankfully, many people have come together to donate food, clothes, toiletries, and physical help. It has been so incredible watching this city come together and display a community agenda.

I created and hosted an event called “In Beauty We Unite” which was for people like me who have influence in the industry and receive countless amounts of all the best beauty products. I reached out to all my industry peers and together we donated an insane amount of products, creating bags to hand deliver to those who have lost everything in this tragic storm.

The appreciation I’ve received from women is tantamount. For some, it may seem frivolous, but to many it is a glimpse of their old life before the storm. From the first swipe of lipstick you can see their face light up and a feeling that through all the ugliness they’re confident they will get through it.
