it’s time to deck the halls…

It’s the Holiday season and time to deck out our homes for all the festivities to come. This can be a favorite time of year for most designers to show off their creativity in decor. I tend to go more non-traditional with holiday decorating. Instead of the traditional green and red color schemes, pine cone filled wreaths, poinsettias and the like.  I love to venture out and let my creative juices flow.

In place of the traditional Christmas Tree, I utilize real leafy plants or even poinsettias in yellow and white placed around a room. Try placing larger decorative ornaments in bright gold metallic, purple and red in a beautiful 3-4ft. glass vase with large pine leaves.  The festive sky is the limit!

Start with your entry way or foyer. Topiaries this time of year are an awesome tree plant for doorways. Placing one on both sides of the entry is both welcoming and could be your interpretation of elegant and upscale Christmas decor for all to see. Decorate the topiaries with jewel-tone large velvet bows or smaller sized ornaments.  Lanterns are great accessories to use throughout the Holiday season as well. Decorating with multiple sized Lanterns, small, medium and large filled with large pillar candles will satisfy an inviting fuss-free decor. Perhaps style your home with different sized pine cones or even winter flowers. Create an warm and inviting entry to your home so those that enter will feel like they are home away from home! Another non-traditional idea would be for a memorable holiday dining experience. Start with a black & white striped tablecloth, white dinnerware trimmed in gold in a stacking order, hunter green glassware and gold metallic goblets with white and yellow gold roses finish with Metallic gold flatware. This look is elegant, non-traditional yet festive. Complete the dining experience with lush drapings in sumptuous hunter green velvet, swayed, with gold sheers in the middle for balance. This look is gorgeous and can be accomplished both on a high-end or lower-end budget.

Have fun during this time of year with decor! I want to hear your ideas, and  if you have tried these insider design tips.

Happy Holidays!
