Valentine’s Day is often celebrated by two people who are romantically involved, whether it’s a new relationship or a couple who are celebrating decades together. With the rise of social media, it’s easy to think that people are breaking the bank when they’re showering their partners with love on that special day. The day doesn’t have to only be about romance, it can be about celebrating any relationship in your life, whether it’s your best friend, sibling or your family, and it also doesn’t have to be insanely expensive.

One suggestion that offers a unique way to exhibit your love and not go financially crazy on one of the most expensive spending days of the year is having brunch at home. Now brunch can be expensive, especially when you factor in the unlimited mimosas or bellinis, but there are ways to take that brunch, or girlfriend’s brunch as I like to call it and make it as cost-effective and fabulous as possible.

How we do turn a blah party to a brunch party? All we need is a good bottle of wine, or three, affordable decor and the right group of friends to set the mood.

Using items from Target and Family Dollar, I was able to show my love to those close to me on that special day, while making sure that I didn’t spend a small fortune. The table was adorned with glasses that read, “my wine is my valentine,” which sets the perfect cute/brunch balance. Supporting local, small businesses is very important and many neighborhood stores sell beautiful, yet inexpensive floral arrangements, which provided the perfect centerpiece for a such a lovely gathering.

Galentine’s Day is also an important time to tell people what they mean to you. Each plate features a message in a bottle, not only thanking those for choosing to spend their day with me, but expressing my admiration, love, and gratitude to have them in my lives.

Couples all around the country will spend Valentine’s Day in a way that works best for them, but we’re here to tell you that you don’t have to go all out to impress those you love, you don’t have to be in a traditional romantic relationship and can spend the day with those that have impacted your life in a positive and loving way. Those who love you, who want to spend time with you, will be happy with any gesture, so make it a thoughtful one, and don’t forget to bring the wine.
